Comic Cover of the Week: There Will Be Blood

Happy New Comic Book Day! It's been a while, but "Comic Cover of the Week" is back.

The return of this weekly feature is a special one. Let's welcome artists Chris Bachalo and Tim Townsend and their cover to Uncanny X-Men #16 featuring the mutant master of magnetism, Magneto.

Whenever Bachalo and Townsend are in the conversation, you know you're going to get some beautiful work. They certainly don't let us down here. There's a dark mood the artists want us to feel. Concealing Magneto's eyes captures that well. From there the limited color palette with the blood spatter is a neat design choice. This is an image worthy of a museum wall.

No, that last one is not cheating. This cover has a lot going for it. I love how Mags' eyes are lit up. There's all kinds of stuff going on around him. He's ready to do some damage and I want to be there for it. We all know Mark Brooks is pretty awesome. He did two covers this week and I was torn at first about which to choose. I almost posted both, but I had to pick one.

Cover of the Week for 1-11-11

Hello funny book readers. I missed New Comic Day for several reasons, but here I am for Cover of the Week. This week I found a nice piece featuring one of my favorite mutants (surprise). There weren't that many covers that caught my eye this week. It happens. Here is Magneto: Not A Hero #3.

Brought to you by Clay & Seth Mann, this cover shows the titular character putting the foot down on his own helmet. What does this mean? I won't know until I read it. I've been a fan of Magnus for many years. One of my favorite villains or villain turned hero turned villain and turned hero again. Regardless of what you wanna call him, he still rocks.
